USS Canopus (AS-9) was built by New York Shipbuilding of Camden, New Jersey and was commissioned 24 January 1922. She aided the fight against the Japanese until the fall of Corrigigor and was scuttled by her own crew on 10 April 1942 in Mariveles Bay, Bataan, to deny her use to the enemy. Canopus was awarded Combat Action Ribbon, Yangtze Service Medal, China Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal with "FLEET" clasp, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one battle star, World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, and Philippine Defense Medal.
